Standing on the corner of Winslow Arizona...

I've been taking it easy, standing on the corner of Winslow Arizona, listening to the Eagles playing - on CD unfortunately, though rumour has it that they plan to perform at the local bandstand in October. Could it be true? This thought may flash through my mind when I'm in Wolverhampton...

Went on from there to Twin Arrows. There's nothing much there except, yes, two arrows but they are very big, enormous in fact. They are planted in the ground outside what is now a deserted petrol station, cafe and broken down trading post.

Onward, through Meteor City (there's a huge meteor crater nearby) and on to Flagstaff. It's 7,000' high (twice as high as Mount Snowdon in Wales) and you can look up at 12,000' mountain range nearby. There's snow on the top and it's skiing country. Freight trains blast their horn as they roar through the railroad station, night and day - no-one sleeps here... Not many passenger trains though, just two a day.

Went down to Sedona at 5,000' which is surrounded by red rock which looked great at the end of the day with bright sun and long shadows.

Hi Lyn, glad to hear you're 'taking it easy'. Just the sound of that song running through my brain conjures up dusty roads, cowboy boots, neon signs on motels.... I'm wondering how close to reality the idea is. Are you finding there are images to fit that iconic Eagles / Route 66 iconic but imagined and thought of from a distance (UK) ideal, or are there lots of unexpected things presenting? I'm following the journey with interest and a certain amount of envy.

Plenty of dusty roads, cowboy hats (not so many boots) and neon signs so didn'take much imagination for me to picture it as it was in its glory days. Of course, the 21st century does intervene, like now when I'm on the internet!
